Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now available for Samsung Galaxy Note 5 users.
However, the main official Marshmallow will be made available in few weeks
to come. Samsung already released a roadmap of Galaxy Smartphone to get
Marshmallow. You can take a look at the list.
Although the marshmallow update hasn’t gone public, a Galaxy Note 5 user
managed to get the update on his smartphone via OTA, by ruining the IMEI
Number and Baseband version, and using the update, the developers were able
to create both the update.zip which can be easily flashed through recovery
and the system dump for Android 6.o marshmallow.
Now, you can easily flash the .tar files using ODIN to get the Android 6.0
Marshmallow based on TouchWiz. The update comes with lot of improvement and
well structured marshmallow interface with no lag. This guide is applicable
on only T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920T.
How to Install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Galaxy Note 5Step 1: Download and
install Samsung Galaxy Note 5 drivers from here, to your PC
Step 2: Enable USB debugging on Samsung Galaxy Note 5. To enable, simply go
to settings >> Developers option, and enable from there. If the developers
option isn’t visible, then go to About Phone under settings, and scroll
down to Build number, then tap up to 7 times, till you get a message saying
you’re now a developer. Now, go back to settings >> developers option and
enable USB debugging.
Step 3: After that, download T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow here, and
unzip the file, then move to the files to the desktop screen of your
computer for easy access. You’ll get three files which are the Bootloader
(BL), System and Kernel (AP) and the modem (CP).
Step 4: After that, Boot your Galaxy Note 5 into Download Mode. To perform
the operation, you have to power off your device and then press, Volume
Down + Power + Home. Press Volume Up now to continue to Download Mode.
Step 5: Once your device is in download mode, simply connect the phone to
your PC via the use of USB cable and the ODIN application (Download) would
notify an added message. You should see a blue box on the ODIN screen if
all drivers are installed properly, if not, re-install and reboot PC.
Step 6: After that, choose “AP” in Odin and select the right file
in .tar.md5 format, in which you have downloaded, the .tar extension. Also
so do same for “CP” and “BL” and select the corresponding files as seen in
the image below.
Step 7: Finally, click on the start button, and the process would begin
immediately. Once the process is completed, you would notice the RESET or
PASS message on the ODIN screen. Then your device would boot into recovery
mode, and then restart your device.
That’s it. Marshmallow firmware based on TouchWiz is now installed on your
device. If you get stuck at bootloop, simply boot your device to recovery
and wipe data and cache. Once you’re done installing Android 6.0
Marshmallow on your Galaxy Note 5, follow the below process to root on
Marshmallow.
How to Root Galaxy Note 5 on Android 6.o MarshmallowAll you need to do is
to flash Note 5 kernel using Odin, then install TWRP Recovery on your
Galaxy Note 5 before flashing the SuperSU file from recovery.
Requirements:Galaxy Note 5 Kernel (Download here)TWRP Recovery (Read
installation Guide)SuperSU (Download here)Now, follow same process you used
to flash the system and kernel file while flashing your Marshmallow
firmware to flash the kernel for root. Simply follow the procedure, when
you get the “Step6” as explained above, you don’t need to tick the “CP” and
“BL”, since it’s just kernel you’re flashing, just tick the “AP”, select
the .tar.md5 kernel file and flash.
Once you’ve flashed the kernel file, simply install TWRP Recovery on your
device. Follow the link provided above to see the installation guide. After
installation, follow the below procedure to flash SuperSU file on your
